Design to Help

With a better experience

Introduction

"DESIGN IS NOT JUST WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AND FEELS LIKE, DESIGN IS HOW IT WORKS."

                                                                                                                                                      STEVE JOB

As a final year design student from Nottingham Trent University, I found out that being an interior designer is not only to design an aesthetic interior space, but also transfer the techniques of design for those who need help. One of a good example to delivery the idea of design to help is the idea of how an emergency shelter being designer and how its work. An emergency shelter functions as a temporary shelter for refugees after an event happened. Emergency shelter is only to provide necessary needs like a space to rest, storage to store belongs, privacy and other.

For this research, the aim and objective is to investigate the knowledge of the public about the research topic, and to prove the idea of ‘Design to help’. The purpose of this research is improve the knowledge of public about emergency shelter, to bring out the meaning of design to help to the public, how the idea of ‘Design to help’ works and to prove that whether there is love for humanity exists in this world.

The site chosen for this research will be an abandoned building located at 183 Huntingdon St Nottingham, United Kingdom. The reason of choosing this site is because of the potential of the site that can fully express how the idea of ‘Design to help’ works and also become a part of the solution work.
